February 3, 2010

PHICC Release No. 10-010

DPHSS Providing FREE H1N1 Vaccinations – Saturday, Feb 13 at Astumbo Gym
Guam, Get H1N1 Vaccinated

The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) will be holding another H1N1 Mass Vaccination Point of Dispensing (POD) for the general public on Saturday, February 13th, from 9 am to 12 Noon, at the Astumbo Gym in Astumbo, Dededo.  The last person to be allowed entry into the POD will be accepted at 11:30 am. Gates will close at approximately 11:30 am.

The H1N1 POD on Saturday is part of DPHSS’s continuing efforts to vaccinate residents from the 2009 H1N1 virus.  The most recent POD was held this past weekend at the UOG Fieldhouse and was a great success as more than 900 residents were vaccinated.  Residents who have not taken the opportunity to get vaccinated are urged to attend the POD on Saturday, February 13th at the Astumbo Gym, Dededo.

It is the Department’s goal to protect the community’s health from the H1N1 influenza virus by providing the vaccine to all residents who wish to receive it.

DPHSS would like to remind all parents and guardians of children age nine (9) and under that a second dose of the H1N1 Influenza vaccine will be required four weeks after the first dose is received.  Children nine (9) years of age and younger who received their first dose of H1N1 Influenza Vaccine are urged to visit their primary care provider or attend the DPHSS’ mass vaccination Point of Dispensing (POD) on Saturday, February 13 at the Astumbo Gym between 9 am to 12 Noon, to receive their second dose. (Note: the last person to be allowed entry into the POD will be accepted at 11:30 am on this day)

All PODs are open to the general public. Adults are asked to bring a picture ID and children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or by an adult with written parental authorization or legal documentation.
